Since young, I do not fancy to wear any gold,
or gems jewelries. When I saw women wearing a lot of jewelries to a function, they gave me a typical impression. They wanted other women to be jealous about their happily married life. Or, if they are not married, they wanted to show that without a man they could still afford to have huge Diamond Rings, Sapphire Rings shining on their hand and Diamond Pendants hanging on their neck.
When I grow older, my thinking has changed. My ex-boy friend proposed to me during Valentines' day with a solitaire diamond ring in his hands. When I looked at the engagement ring, I was really touch (partially due to the diamond ring :p ). However, we broke off few months after engagement. We realised that we were not meant for each others. In this world, nothing is forever but diamond is. Do you know that the word "diamond" comes from Greek. It means "something that can not be conquered.
By the way, that diamond engagement ring came with certificate indicating the 4Cs diamond category; Clarity, Cut, Carat and Color. Next time, if you are looking for Engagement Rings, ask the shop attendants about the 4 Cs. If budget allows, go for higher clarity, perfect cut, bigger carat and lighter color. However, these are the guidelines for white diamonds. There may be different guidelines for Black Diamond Rings.
Now, I still do not fancy gold and gems but not diamonds. I like diamonds not because they're expensive. It's because diamonds are beautiful. We can wear diamonds anytime. They look perfectly well in t-shirt and jeans, corporate wear or even in our white wedding gown. Unfortunately, diamonds have no resell value. Therefore most of the people will prefer to buy gold as wedding gifts.
During my last trip to Netherland, we visited a diamond factory outlet at Amsterdam. At the factory outlet, they showed us how diamonds were being extrated from the minerals, how diamonds were made into jewelries and so on. They even shared with us the 4 Cs in defining diamond grades. At that time, I was too young to appreciate diamonds. Besides that, I didn't have that kind of money to buy diamonds. If I will go there again, I think I still will not buy. Because, I believe that jewelries are gifts that men buy to please the women. If I have the money, I rather spend on vacantion or food.
